Le Potazzine is a renowned winery located in the heart of the Montalcino region in Tuscany. It is situated in the southwestern part of Tuscany, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Florence. The winery is specifically known for its production of Brunello di Montalcino, a prestigious and highly regarded red wine made from Sangiovese grapes.

The winery was founded in 1993 by Gigliola Giannetti, who had a passion for winemaking and a desire to create exceptional wines. The name “Potazzine” refers to the Italian word for ” little lively and colorful birds,” which often found in the Tuscan countryside.

Le Potazzine focuses on producing limited quantities of high-quality wines, with a strong emphasis on traditional winemaking techniques. The vineyard today consists of approximately 5 hectares of vineyards, between 420 – 507 meters above sea level.

Le Potazzine’s Brunello wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and ability to age gracefully. They often exhibit aromas of ripe red fruits, floral notes, earthiness, and spice, with a balanced structure and refined tannins. The great wines are obtained through a long vinification process, lasting 30 – 40 days, which allows Sangiovese to express their characteristic through a completely natural formation, without the addition of yeasts and uncontrolled temperatures. In this way, wines with soft and elegant tannins are obtained, ageing is done in medium sized Slavonian oak barrels.

Production is around 28,000 bottles per year, between Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. Only in particularly prestigious vintage will produce ‘Riserva’.
